Royal Enfield Sherpa FT MK2
Royal Enfield will officially enter the 2026 FIM Flat Track World Championship with the new Royal Enfield Sherpa FT MK2. This motorcycle is another big step towards the company’s growing motorsport ambitions. The Sherpa FT Mk2 will make its debut in Roden, Netherlands on 9 May 2026.
In addition, veteran flat track racer Gary Birtwistle will drive the motorcycle during the championship. Gary Birtwhistle is also the founder of the Dirt Craft Race School. Additionally, he has two National Flat Track Championship titles. Interestingly, Royal Enfield describes the Sherpa FT MK2 as a “Launching soon” Motorcycle.
Sherpa Engine platform may receive performance upgrades
Royal Enfield has not revealed the full engine specifications yet. However, the Sherpa name is already closely associated with the 452cc liquid-cooled engine used in it Himalaya 450 And guerrilla 450.
That engine currently produces 39 bhp and 40 Nm of torque in standard guise. Perhaps the race motorcycle may receive a performance upgrade for use in competition. Flat track racing requires strong low-end and mid-range power delivery. Therefore, the single-cylinder engine setup is perfect for this racing format.
Unlike multi-cylinder motorcycles, single-cylinder engines offer direct throttle response and easy rear-wheel control. Additionally, riders can more effectively manage slide angle and traction on dirt surfaces.
Championship expansion makes competition more challenging
Royal Enfield’s entry into the FIM Flat Track World Championship comes at an interesting time. The championship has been significantly expanded for the 2026 season. Earlier, the series consisted of only six rounds. However, the championship now consists of ten rounds in eight countries and two continents.
