“The 450 cc twin-cylinder will arrive during the year, in the first half,” said Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India.
He said that the new bike will play an important role in enhancing BMW Motorrad’s presence in the mid-capacity premium motorcycle segment. This segment offers better scale compared to large capacity superbikes in India. Hence, the company hopes that this launch will attract urban riders who prefer mid-range luxury motorcycles.
Hardeep Singh Brar further added, “Double digit is the minimum for us now. We are not chasing volumes. We want to make whatever we are selling profitable.”
He further said that the demand for premium motorcycles in India is largely driven by experienced urban riders, while the demand for top end superbikes is limited. Therefore, BMW Motorrad plans to strengthen its luxury category with more models and community building ride-hailing initiatives.
The company said that despite some criticism about the 310cc bikes and CE electric range being overpriced, it will maintain the luxury and performance standards. Furthermore, BMW Motorrad intends to avoid discounting or reducing features. Furthermore, the upcoming launch is expected to strengthen the long-term brand positioning while maintaining the company’s leadership in India’s premium motorcycle segment.
