India’s two-wheeler market is growing

Registrations see annual increase despite monthly decline

According to data from JATO Dynamics India, India recorded around 1.92 million two-wheeler registrations during April 2026. However, registrations declined by 2.3 percent compared to March 2026 after the fiscal year-end procurement period.

Commenting on the latest numbers, Ravi Bhatia, President, JATO Dynamics India Global Automotive Intelligence, Said, “April’s two-wheeler data reflects a mature and predictable market. The slight month-on-month decline is seasonal and expected. The year-on-year growth, on a higher base, is the real story and remains strongly sustained.”

Hero MotoCorp and Honda continue to lead in registrations

Hero MotoCorp remains India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer through April 2026 based on nationwide registrations. The company registered over 5.52 lakh units during the month in various markets across the country.

Honda crossed registrations of 4.72 lakh units during the same period across India. TVS Motor also recorded an annual growth of over 18 percent in April registrations across the country. Additionally, Yamaha recorded more registrations across several regions as compared to the same month last year. However, Suzuki recorded a slight annual decline in registrations through April 2026.

Motorcycles have major share in total registrations

Motorcycles contributed about 59 percent of the total two-wheeler registrations across the country during April 2026. Scooters accounted for about 30 percent of total registrations across the country during the same period.

Delhi leads in city registrations during April 2026

Delhi emerged as the country’s largest city market for two-wheeler registrations across India during April 2026. Bengaluru and Pune lagged far behind Delhi in overall registration numbers during the month.

Additionally, Chennai and Mumbai are also among the leading city markets despite rising traffic and ownership costs. At the state level, Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of registrations during April across India. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Bihar also remained among the leading state markets in the country for two-wheelers.
