CFMoto 500SR shown with 499

  • The CFMoto 500SR was revealed via Chinese type-approval documents.
  • Powered by a 499cc inline-four engine producing approximately 79hp.
  • The bike adopts full supersport styling inspired by the SR family.

Chinese motorcycle brands cfmoto CFMoto continues its rapid expansion with a new middleweight supersport called the 500SR. Type-approval documents recently filed in China have revealed several details about the design and specifications of the upcoming motorcycle. Interestingly, the bike uses the same platform as the retro-styled CFMoto 500SR Voom.

However, the new 500SR focuses on aggressive supersport styling rather than retro design elements. Perhaps this change helps align the model with the company’s modern SR sports motorcycle lineup.

Furthermore, the documents confirm that the motorcycle is powered by the same 499cc inline-four engine used in the Vroom. This engine gives power of about 79hp at 12,500rpm and torque of 49 Nm at 10,000rpm. Furthermore, the engine layout makes the 500SR unique in its class as many rivals use twin-cylinder engines. As a result, the bike can deliver a better feel and a distinctive exhaust note.

Sportier styling and lightweight chassis

The CFMoto 500SR is also made of the same tubular steel frame as the CFMoto 500SR Voom. It also sports a 1,395 mm wheelbase which is a balance between agility and highway stability. The bike has fully adjustable 41mm upside-down forks at the front and a rear monoshock swingarm for support when the rider is in high spirits. Additionally, the unique under-seat exhaust bellows.

However the styling is very different giving the motorcycle a sharp supersport appearance. It has angular shaped headlights with eyebrow-like LED DRLs, with layered fairings enhancing the aerodynamics. Its design is very similar to the CFMoto 675 SR-R. Additionally, the bike includes mirrors on the fairing instead of the bar-ends. Interestingly, the new bodywork makes it lighter in terms of weight to just 187 kg.

Growing SR lineup reflects CFMoto’s global ambitions

The CFMoto 500SR was originally introduced as a secret prototype in 2023 alongside the CFMoto 675 SR-R. Although production of the 675SR-R had already begun, development of the 500SR was quietly underway.

The company may have made changes to the design to suit its recent sportbike designs. Meanwhile, CFMoto is working on the SR brand with models like the CFMoto 750SR-S and CFMoto 1000 SR-RR. Even though a launch date hasn’t been given, the 500SR could be introduced in markets like China and Australia, where the CFMoto 500SR Voom is already sold.
