Honda has patented the design of Honda Air Blade in India. This development has sparked fresh discussions about Honda’s future plans for sporty scooters. The Air Blade is already sold in several international markets with 125cc and 160cc engine options. However, Honda has not officially confirmed any India launch yet.
The patent filing comes soon after Honda patented the WN7 electric motorcycle in India. Perhaps, the move reflects the company’s increasing focus on expanding its premium product lineup. Unlike the WN7, the Air Blade seems to be more suitable for Indian buyers at present. Furthermore, the demand for sporty maxi-style scooters has steadily increased in recent years.
Currently, competition in this segment is limited in India. Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Zoom 160 remain the main rivals in this category.
Honda Air Blade 160 can become a strong rival
If Honda launches the Air Blade in India, the 160cc version may make more sense. The larger engine fits the model better than existing competitors in the market. Globally, the Air Blade 160 uses a 157cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. For strong performance in the city, this motor produces 14.7 bhp and 14.8 Nm torque.
The scooter weighs only 113 kg and has a 4.4-litre fuel tank. Therefore, the lighter setup can help improve agility and fuel efficiency together. Interestingly, the air blade weighs less than both hero zoom 160 And Yamaha Aerox 155. However, Honda uses narrower tires than its rivals.
The scooter rides on 14-inch wheels and uses telescopic front suspension with twin rear shock absorbers. Furthermore, the seat height is 775 mm for easy access.
Patent filing does not confirm immediate launch
Honda currently holds the patent primarily for intellectual property protection purposes. Therefore, the filing alone does not guarantee an immediate launch in India.
